Reporting Absence from School

If your child is absent from school it is very important to let the school office know before 8.25am on the morning of the absence. This is to confirm that your child is safe. Further detail on the expectations for attendance at school when school is fully open can be found here: https://www.newportprimary.devon.sch.uk/reporting-an-absence.

Parent Engagement

  • Being part of your child's learning journey is vitally important. We actively encourage parents/carers to contribute evidence towards children's progress against the Early Learning Goals. The system for this will be shared in September.

  • Phonics/Reading Workshops for parents/carers are carried out over the year. Supporting your child at home with reading is key to a child's success with reading.

  • Termly opportunity to discuss your child's progress with the class teacher

  • We welcome parents/carers to share any concerns or questions they have as soon as they arise with the class teacher.

Early Years Foundation Curriculum - What does learning look like in Reception?

These areas of learning and development shape the experiences and  provision for children in Reception.

Prime Areas of Learning:

  • Communication & Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional

Specific Areas of Learning

  • Literacy - Reading & Writing

  • Mathematics - Number & Shape/Space/Measure

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

For every area of learning there is an Early Learning Goal which identifies the expected knowledge, skills and understanding children should gain by the end of Reception. Teachers and Early Years Practitioners make ongoing observations of learning to evidence each individual child's progress towards these goals. At the end of the year, your child's achievement towards these goals is shared with you and reported to the Local Authority.
