Reception have started learning about fire fighters as part of their Local Area topic. They have explored photos of the varied roles of a firefighter as part of the fire and rescue role.
The children have each measured and made a ladder tall enough to reach up their box buildings. To do this, we first had to be scientists, testing the strength and suitability of various materials. They decided the wood was strong enough to enable a fire fighter to climb it.
The children continued their scientific investigations to solve the problem of the cardboard roof on their box houses leaking. So, they set about testing materials and recording their results to choose a suitable cover to keep their buildings dry. Now they are ready to start building their own street with strong and waterproof materials.
